Origin and history
The Dolmen de Beaumer is an iconic megalithic building located in Carnac, Morbihan department in Brittany. Dated from Neolithic, it illustrates the funerary and architectural practices of this period, with a dolmen structure with corridor whose entrance was probably oriented to the east. Today, there are only four orthostats that support a single cover table, marked by traces of flow and cups.
Ranked as historical monuments by order of 11 September 1929, this dolmen bears witness to the heritage importance of the region's megalithic sites. Its cover table bears the stigmas of an attempt to exploit by carriers, highlighting historical threats to this heritage. The cupules, typical circular engravings, add a symbolic dimension still poorly understood.
Archaeological sources, such as the works of Anne-Louise Hamon (1994) or Zacharie Le Rouzic (1965), document his inventory among the protected monuments of Morbihan. These studies place the dolmen in a larger megalithic complex, characteristic of the Carnac region, where these structures probably served as collective burials or ritual sites.
Located precisely at the approximate address 1 Impasse du Voulien, the site has enjoyed legal protection for almost a century. Despite a GPS location deemed "passable" (level 5/10), there remains a major point of interest for the study of Breton megalithism and neolithic practices in France.
