Origin and history
The Dolmen de Giverzac is a megalithic monument located in Domme, Dordogne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Dated from Neolithic, it was first reported in 1818 by François Jouannet. This simple dolmen consists of a sandstone cover table based on a main orthostat and a fragment of a second, as well as a bedside slab. The monument, which collapsed before being raised, illustrates the megalithic construction techniques of the time.
The dolmen was registered as historical monuments by order of 17 May 1962. It is located at the intersection of three paths, on a plot belonging to the commune of Domme. Its structure, although partially restored, retains elements characteristic of the dolmens of this period, such as the use of sandstone slabs and a typical arrangement of orthostats.
The first written records of the dolmen date back to the 19th century, notably in the works of François Jouannet and a study published in 1878 by A. de Roumejoux in the Bulletin of the Historical and Archaeological Society of the Périgord. These historical sources underline its importance in the local megalithic heritage. The site is now accessible, although its exact location is considered to be of poor accuracy (level 5/10).
