Dolmen de Kerscao (Case ZC 8): entry by order of 18 June 1971
Origin and history
The Dolmen de Kerscao is a megalithic monument located in Riec-sur-Bélon, in the Breton region. Although little documented in the sources provided, it is associated with the Neolithic period, an era marked by the emergence of agriculture and the construction of collective funeral structures. This type of monument bears witness to the cultural and religious practices of the local communities of the time.
Dolmens, like Kerscao, were generally used as collective burials. They reflect a complex social organization, where communities invested considerable effort in building these structures into stone. Their presence in Brittany, rich in megalithic sites, underlines the importance of this region in the study of European Neolithic.
The materials used, often local stones, and their architectural layout offer valuable insights into the construction techniques and beliefs of the people of the time.
