The dolmen of Kervin-Brigitte and the remains of its tumulus as well as the ground within a radius of 6 meters around the center of the structure. The dolmen of Kervin-Brigitte and its tumulus appear in the cadastre of the commune section ZB parcel No 192, represented on the plan attached to the decree: inscription by decree of 23 February 2024
Origin and history
The dolmen of Kervin-Brigitte is a megalithic building located in the municipality of Crach, in the department of Morbihan (Bretagne region). Dated from Neolithic, it illustrates the collective funeral structures characteristic of this period, where local communities erected stone structures to house the deceased. This type of monument reflects a complex social organization and spiritual beliefs related to death and beyond.
The dolmen and the remains of its tumulus were subject to double protection in respect of historical monuments: a first inscription by decree of 24 July 2023, followed by a second decree in 23 February 2024 incorporating the same provisions. These measures aim to preserve the megalithic structure and its immediate environment, including the soil within a radius of 6 metres around the centre of the monument. The site is listed in the cadastre of Crach (section ZB, parcel n°192).
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its membership in the rich megalithic heritage of Morbihan, a Breton department with a large number of comparable sites. The dolmen of Kervin-Brigitte is thus part of a wider network of prehistoric monuments, testifying to the ancient human occupation of this coastal region. However, no information is provided on any archaeological excavations or on objects discovered on site.
The location of the dolmen, specified by the Merimée base, indicates an administrative address to Crach (code Insee 56046), although an approximate GPS coordinates erroneously mention the commune of Avessac in Loire-Atlantique. This geographical inconsistency seems to come from an impreciseness in the data, the official source (Crach Mairie and protection order) confirming its Morbihan anchor. The site is accessible for the visit, but no information is available on specific tourist facilities.
