Origin and history
The dolmen of the Cour du Breuil, located in the commune of Bernard in Vendée (Pays de la Loire), is a megalithic vestige dating from the Neolithic period. This type of funerary monument, characteristic of this prehistoric period, bears witness to the cultural and religious practices of the societies of the time. Its architecture, composed of large erect stones, was generally used as a collective burial, reflecting a complex social organization and a spirituality rooted in the landscape.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 15 March 1978, this dolmen is protected for its archaeological and heritage importance. Dolmens, widespread in western France, were often places of assembly and memory for Neolithic communities. Their presence in the current landscape recalls the long-standing human occupation in this region, marked by a transition to agriculture and sedentarization.
The precise location of the dolmen, at 521 Rue de la Vierge du Breuil, allows visitors today to discover this exceptional heritage, although the practical information on how to visit remains limited in the available sources.
