Dolmen dit de la Croisonnière (Case D 210): Order of 28 July 1970
Origin and history
The Dolmen de la Croisonnière, located in the commune of Nanteuil in Les Deux-Sèvres, is a megalithic building emblematic of the Neolithic period. It consists of a Bajocian limestone subcircular cover table, 4.50 m long by 4 m wide, with a thickness of between 0.40 and 0.60 cm. This slab rests partially on a 0.90 m long pillar, inclined to the northwest. The monument is surrounded by an oval cairn of 7 m on the north-south axis and 4 m on the east-west axis.
Ranked as historical monuments by order of 28 July 1970, this dolmen bears witness to the funeral and architectural practices of Neolithic in the region. Its state of conservation and its characteristics make it a remarkable example of local megalithism, integrated into the landscape of the Deux-Sèvres in New Aquitaine.
