Origin and history
The dolmen of the Pierre Folle du Plessis, located in the commune of Bernard in Vendée (Pays de la Loire), is a megalithic vestige emblematic of the Neolithic period. This type of funerary monument, characteristic of prehistoric architecture, bears witness to the cultural and religious practices of the societies of the time. Its location in the local landscape reflects the importance of megalithic sites in the territorial organization of neolithic communities.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree on November 6, 1929, this dolmen enjoys a heritage protection that underscores its archaeological and historical value. Although the precise details of its construction and use remain partially unknown, its state of conservation and its approximate location (5191 Le Plessis, 85560 Le Bernard) make it a point of interest for the study of megalithism in Vendée. Dolmens, like this one, usually served as collective burials and often marked places of assembly or worship for local populations.
