Origin and history

The Dolmen de la pointe Vide-Bouteilles is a megalithic monument located in the municipality of Crach, Morbihan, in the United Kingdom. Dated from Neolithic, it bears witness to the funeral and architectural practices of prehistoric societies in this region. This type of structure, composed of large erect stones, generally served as a collective burial and marked the landscape in a sustainable manner.

Ranked as Historic Monument by order of 24 July 2023, the dolmen also includes its tumulus, appearing in the cadastre under section ZR, parcel No. 5. The precise location of the site, although known (2 Place called Coët Kaloun), is considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10), according to the available data. No information is provided on its current accessibility or possible tourist vocations.

Neolithic in Brittany is a period marked by the nascent agriculture, the breeding and the gradual sedentarization of populations. Dolmens, like that of Vide-Bouteilles, played a central role in funeral rituals and the structuring of territories. Their construction reflects a complex social organization, capable of mobilizing significant human and technical resources to erect these durable monuments.
