The dolmen of Peudrec and its tumulus, appearing in the cadastre of the commune sectionYD parcel No 270, represented on the plan annexed to the decree: inscription by order of 24 July 2023
Origin and history
The Dolmen de Peudrec, located in the municipality of Crach (Morbihan, Brittany), is a megalithic monument dating from the Neolithic period. It is representative of the funeral buildings of this time, characterized by erect stones and tumulus. This type of structure generally served as a collective burial, reflecting the beliefs and social organization of local prehistoric communities.
The dolmen and its tumulus were officially recognized and protected by an inscription under the Historical Monuments, as evidenced by the decree of 24 July 2023. This protection specifically covers the dolmen and its immediate environment, as defined in the communal cadastre (section YD, parcel No. 270). The location of the site, although documented, remains approximate, with an accuracy estimated at 6/10 according to available data.
Neolithic in Brittany is marked by a gradual sedentarisation of populations, the development of agriculture and the emergence of megalithic monuments. These constructions, like the dolmen of Peudrec, played a central role in funeral rituals and the structuring of territories. Their presence attests to an organized society capable of mobilizing significant resources and labour to build these sustainable buildings.
