Origin and history
The Dolmen de Peyro-Coupeliero, located in Lamazière-Haute en Corrèze, is a megalithic monument dating from the Neolithic period. This type of funeral or ritual structure reflects the cultural and social practices of prehistoric communities in the region. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by decree of 14 April 1976 underlines its heritage and archaeological importance.
In the Neolithic era, local populations lived mainly in agriculture, livestock and gathering. Dolmens, such as Peyro-Coupeliero, often served as collective burials or places of worship, reflecting a structured social organization and beliefs related to death and beyond. These monuments were usually erected in strategic areas, such as plateaus or hills, to mark the territory.
