Origin and history

The Dolmen de Stang Youen is a megalithic monument located in the municipality of Quimper, Finistère, England. It is located along the departmental road D365, in the place called Ergué-Armel. This dolmen is partially buried in a slope, with a cover table measuring about 2 meters by 2.50 meters for a thickness of 0.45 meters. Under this slab, several stones are visible, including a support and an orthostate collapsed to the west, probably linked to the monument.

Mentioned for the first time in 1971, the dolmen was studied in an archaeological prospecting report in 2021, available on the site of the Regional Archaeology Service of Brittany. It has been classified as a Historic Monument since 26 January 1978, including a 5 metre strip of land around the covering slab. Its approximate address is 6 Rue Dallam, 29000 Quimper, according to recorded GPS coordinates.

This type of monument, typical of Neolithic, bears witness to the funeral and cultural practices of prehistoric societies in the region. The dolmens generally served as collective burials and marked the landscape, reflecting the social and spiritual organization of the communities of the time. In Brittany, these megalithic structures are numerous and often protected for their heritage value.
