Origin and history

The Dolmen dit La Peyrelevade, located near Beaumont in Rampieux, is a megalithic monument emblematic of the Neolithic period. This type of construction, characteristic of the time, was generally used as a collective burial or ritual place for prehistoric communities. The dolmen is composed of three supports, a structure typical of buildings of this nature.

Ranked a Historic Monument in 1889, this dolmen was originally owned by the State (Ministry of Culture) before being transferred to the commune of Rampieux by an agreement signed on 27 December 2007. This transfer marks an important step in the local management of the historical heritage, allowing better preservation and enhancement of the site.

The location of the dolmen is specified with a reliability deemed satisfactory (note 7/10), and the site is now under the responsibility of the municipality. Although information on its accessibility (visits, events) is not detailed in the available sources, its status as a protected monument guarantees its conservation for future generations.
