Origin and history
The Dolmen du Bünz is a megalithic building located in Inzinzac-Lochrist, Morbihan, England, from the Neolithic period. Discovered in 1977 by R. Bertrand, it was classified as historical monuments by order of 25 September 1979. This dolmen illustrates the funerary architecture of the era, with a local granite structure and a north-west/south-east orientation.
Built on a rocky eminence at 36 meters above sea level, the Bünz dolmen belongs to the type of transepted dolmens. It consists of two south-west side lateral cells, one northeast side cell and one terminal cell. Although partially damaged, its plan allows to reconstruct its characteristic spatial organization, with granite slabs extracted nearby.
The site was protected by a ranking including a 5 metre strip of land around the exposed slabs (ZY 176 Park). Its approximate location is indicated at 4 Rue des Vieilles Pierres in Inzinzac-Lochrist, although the cartographic accuracy is considered poor (level 5/10). The dolmen bears witness to the funeral practices and architectural know-how of Breton Neolithic communities.
Available sources, including a study by Philippe Gouézin (Megaliths of the Interior Morbihan, 1994), highlight its importance in the regional megalithic heritage. The monument is part of a wider set of similar sites in the Morbihan, reflecting a dense and organized human occupation during the Neolithic period.
