Origin and history

The Dolmen La Pierre qui Tourne is a megalithic vestige located in Morancez, in the department of Eure-et-Loir. This monument, dated from Neolithic, consists of a cover table in Sparnacian sandstone measuring 6.50 m long by 3.50 m wide, accompanied by an orthostat and a table fragment. It reflects the funeral and architectural practices of prehistoric societies in the region.

Mentioned for the first time in 1864 by Boisvillette in his Archeological Statistics of Eure-et-Loir, the dolmen nearly disappeared in 1982 due to a project of subdivision. Saved in extremis, he was registered as a historical monument by order of 22 September 1983. Today, it remains in the state of ruins, but remains a valuable testimony of the local prehistoric heritage.

The dolmen is located at the approximate address of 40 Rue de Chartres, in the municipality of Morancez (code Insee 28269). Although its state is partial, it illustrates the importance of megaliths in the historical landscape of Eure-et-Loir and the Centre-Val de Loire region. Its inscription as a historic monument guarantees its preservation for future generations.
