Dolmen dit de Taminage (Case B 32): classification by decree of 30 November 1981
Origin and history
The Dolmen de Taminage is a megalithic building located in the commune of Berneuil, in the Haute-Vienne department. This monument, typical of the Neolithic period, bears witness to the funeral and cultural practices of the prehistoric societies of the region. It was erected at a time when local communities were beginning to adopt a sedentary lifestyle, marked by agriculture and livestock.
Filed as historical monuments on November 30, 1981, the Dolmen de Taminage is part of the protected archaeological heritage of New Aquitaine. This type of structure, often associated with collective burials, illustrates the importance of funeral rites in neolithic societies. The precise location of the dolmen, although documented, remains subject to approximations, as evidenced by the poor accuracy of its geographical location.
Dolmen is referenced in the Mérimée base, which lists French historical monuments, and is also mentioned in specialized resources such as The Megalithic Portal. These references highlight its scientific and heritage interest, while linking it to a wider network of megalithic sites in Europe. The municipality of Berneuil, where it is located, is integrated into the former Limousin region, now merged in New Aquitaine.
