Origin and history

The dolmen under tumulus of the Pierre Coquelée is a megalithic monument located in Lutz-en-Dunois, in the region Centre-Val de Loire. This type of structure, characteristic of Neolithic, reflects the funeral and cultural practices of prehistoric societies. The dolmens, often covered with a tumulus, served as collective burials and marked the landscape of their imposing presence.

In the Centre-Val de Loire region, megalithic monuments such as the Pierre Coquelée are part of a wider context of ancient settlement. Local communities of the time lived mainly in agriculture, livestock and gathering. These funeral structures reflect a complex social organization where the cult of ancestors and the management of territories played a central role.

The dolmen of Lutz-en-Dunois, although poorly dated, illustrates this architectural and spiritual tradition unique to Neolithic societies.
