Searched Men Yann, discovering a flint blade.
Origin and history
Men Cam and Men Yann are two dolmens about 100 metres away, located on the island of Groix, Morbihan. These megalithic monuments, built during the Neolithic period, bear witness to the funeral practices of the time. They have been erected on an exposed promontory with a south-eastern orientation and have been classified as historic monuments since 25 July 1969.
Men Yann, whose Breton name means "the stone of Jean", is 10 meters long, with a width ranging from 1 meter at the entrance to 1.80 meters at the bottom of the room. This "V"-shaped dolmen retains eight lateral orthostats and two bedside slabs, but its covering slabs have disappeared. Stunned by L. Le Pontois, he delivered a 24 cm flint blade of the Grand Pressigny, as well as a regular paving of the ground. White quartz blocks partially delimit the cairn.
Men Cam, whose name means "boxstone", is in a very degraded state, making its architecture difficult to identify. It could be a corridor dolmen, with a corridor facing southeast/northwest. According to a local tradition, this monument was home to the "death cart", which came to pick up its victims. These dolmens, properties of the commune, illustrate the importance of collective burials in the Neolithic region of Brittany.
