Origin and history
Nevez's dolmen is a megalithic vestige of Neolithic, a period marked by the emergence of agriculture and livestock in Europe. This type of monument, usually associated with collective burials, illustrates the first stone funeral architectures in the Breton region. Its location in Nevez, Finistère, reflects the density of prehistoric sites in this part of Brittany, where sedentary communities organized their territory around sacred or memorial places.
Ranked a Historic Monument by order of 1 March 1971, this dolmen is protected by the remarkable elements of the French archaeological heritage. The Mérimée sheet precisely locates it at the address 2 Brucou, 29920 Nevez, in the department of Finistère (code Insee 29153), attached to the district of Quimper. Although available sources (including Monumentum) do not detail its specific history, its inscription attests to its importance for understanding local neolithic societies.
The accuracy of its location is assessed as satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), suggesting clear identification despite the absence of detailed archaeological data in the sources consulted.
