Origin and history
The domaine de la Durette is an architectural complex located in the south of Avignon, in the department of Vaucluse, in Provence-Alpes-Côte d的Azur. Dating mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries, it consists of a mansion, former communes, a chapel and a landscaped park. The estate was listed in the Historic Monuments by order of 2 August 1996, thereby recognizing its heritage value.
Acquired in 1748 by Pierre Duret, a silk merchant, the estate saw the construction of his master house at that time. Since 2007, the castle has hosted the GRAB (Groupe de Recherche en Agriculture Biologique), founded in 1979, which has installed a pilot farm dedicated to organic crops, grasslands and orchards. This site combines historical heritage and agricultural innovation.
The protected features of the estate include the facades and roofs of the master house and old communes, the chapel, the landscaped park, as well as the fence walls and their gates. These protections reflect the architectural and historical importance of the site, while preserving its natural setting and original amenities.
