Origin and history

The Haute Barde estate, located in Beaumont-Lwestault (Indre-et-Loire), is an architectural complex whose precise origins are not detailed in the available sources. It consists of a main building, formerly used as an orphanage or holiday home, as well as two pavilions and a meadow that served as a meeting and sports room. These elements, spread over several cadastral parcels, were listed in the Historic Monuments in February 2023 for their facades and roofs, highlighting their heritage value.

The Centre-Val de Loire region, where Beaumont-Lwestault is located, has long been marked by a rural life and strong community structures, such as orphanages or reception homes. These buildings, often converted, reflect the social and educational needs of the 19th and 20th centuries, during which time charitable institutions and resorts developed to respond to demographic and cultural changes. The Haute Barde domain is part of this, although its detailed history and initial uses remain partially documented.
