Origin and history

The estate of La Porte, located on the communes of Sandillon and Saint-Cyr-en-Val in the Loiret, is a castle built from 1776 by Claude de Loynes d'Autroche, man of letters and agronomist. The old castle, demolished for the occasion, gives way to a new construction whose chapel was completed in 1785, decorated with a vault painted by Simonin, dit Lyonet. The interior decorations, such as the panel and doortop, reflect various styles (Louis XV, Empire), with contributions from the sculptor Reverend.

The estate evolved over the centuries: the current commons, built between the two world wars, replaced those of 1876. The park illustrates a transition from the French to the English style. In 1992, the castle was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments, and in 1995 it was classified for its facades, roofs, chapel, and landscape elements (bassins, nymphs, perspectives). The painter Charles Pensée immortalized the estate in watercolours around 1850-1860.

In the 19th century, Count Bernard de Poncins owned it. In 2005, businessman Claude Bébéar acquired the estate, then private property. The protected elements include the decor of the central living room, the old dining room, and landscape views extending to Saint-Cyr-en-Val. The site remains an architectural and artistic testimony of the Enlightenment, marked by neoclassical and romantic influences.
