Origin and history
The domain of Villeflix, located in Noisy-le-Grand in Île-de-France, is marked by the presence of a nymphaeus built between 1695 and 1708. This monument, which was part of a now extinct estate, was originally decorated with a mask spitting water in two basins, as evidenced by a hydraulic plan of 1774. The basins have since disappeared, but remain the stone apparatus, the benches fitted out, as well as a calade of washed pebbles, witness to its past fascist.
At the end of the 19th century, the domain of Villefix was fragmented and distributed, leaving only fragments of its architectural heritage. Of these, nymphae, classified as Historic Monument by order of 2 May 2000, is the only protected element (cadastre AE 35). Its present state reflects both its original grandeur and the transformations undergone over the centuries, especially with the disappearance of the original hydraulic elements.
Today, the nymph is located 10 aisle of the Grotte, in an urban environment that contrasts with its original use. Although the estate has lost its unity, this vestige offers an overview of the gardens and hydraulic installations characteristic of the 17th and 18th centuries, when the aristocratic domains competed with ingenuity to create spaces of relaxation and representation. The current location, noted as satisfactory a priori (level 6/10), still allows to understand its integration into the historical landscape of Noisy-le-Grand.
