Origin and history

Dougeru Manor House is a residence in the commune of Saint-Aubin-de-Terregatte, in the Manche department, in the Normandy region. Built between the end of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century, it was redesigned during this last period, with potentially 15th century elements. The main house, rectangular in shape, is flanked by a round tower at its southwest angle and a rectangular "donjon" on its north side, accompanied by a quadrangular turret. These architectural features reflect the stylistic transitions between Renaissance and classical times.

The mansion is located 2.8 km northeast of the village of Saint-Aubin-de-Terregatte, accessible by a secondary road leading to the Chauvignière, near a granite calvary. This isolated positioning, close to the D178 and D78 axes, suggests a function both residential and perhaps defensive or symbolic for its owners. Together, including the dovecote, demonstrates the importance of local seigneuries in the rural organization of post-medieval Normandy.

Dougeru Manor House and its dovecote were registered as historic monuments by order of 29 March 1991. This protection recognizes their heritage value, both for their architecture and for their role in local history. The protected elements, referenced under the ZI 17 cadastre, include the house, the tower, the "donjon" and the dovecote, typical of the seigneurial domains of modern times. No information is available on any historic owners or sponsors.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée database, highlight the architectural interest of the site, but do not provide details on its precise use over the centuries. The approximate address, 1 Dougerus, and the Insee code of the municipality (50448) allow, however, to locate it with an accuracy considered satisfactory a priori (level 6/10). No mention is made of an opening to the public, visits, or conversion to accommodation or reception room.
