Origin and history

The grape house is an iconic historic monument located at 7 Bartholdi Street in Colmar, in the Haut-Rhin department. Built in 1904, this building perfectly illustrates the Art Nouveau style, with a facade richly decorated with vegetable sculptures evoking the vine and grapes, as well as a wrought iron grill with undulating lines characteristic of this artistic movement.

The building, designed in stone, was erected according to the plans of the Parisian architect Eudoxe Gregoriady. Its imposing forebody ends with a decorated pediment, while the protected elements (facade, roofs and grid) were inscribed in the historic monuments on October 29, 1975. The Colmar entrepreneur Matter supervised its construction, marking the urban landscape of Colmar.

The house with grapes takes its name from the carved motifs that adorn its facade, dominated by representations of grapes and vine leaves. These artistic details, combined with the wrought iron grid with sinuous curves, reflect the influence of Art Nouveau in Alsace at the beginning of the 20th century. The building, still visible today, bears witness to the architectural innovation of its time.

Although the sources mention a priori satisfactory location accuracy, no additional information is provided on its current use (visit, rental, etc.). Available references (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its status as a protected monument and its heritage importance in the Greater East region.
