Origin and history

The Dunoyer Museum in Segonzac originated in 1968 when Georges Coubard, mayor of Boussy-Saint-Antoine, invited painter André Dunoyer de Segonzac to visit his family home. This meeting gave rise to the project to transform the artist's native chamber into a museum, inaugurated on November 8, 1968 in the presence of Léo Hamon, Secretary of State for National Education. This first space exhibits works and personal objects related to the life and career of the painter.

In 1984, during the centenary of the birth of André Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884-1974), the present library museum was inaugurated on 17 November. It houses a rich donation including engravings, lithographs, striped brass, posters, family photographs, documents, medals and works from the artist's personal library. These collections provide a comprehensive overview of his work and his intellectual environment.

The museum is housed in two historic buildings: the painter's home, built around 1860 by his great-grandparents, the Prudhomme-Petit, and the old saddlery of the property, renovated in 1984. This white house, built on the foundations of a medieval seigneurial hotel mentioned as early as 1383, preserves remains like a vaulted corridor of the 14th century. Acquired by the municipality in 1967 in a degraded state, it was restored and became the city hall in 1970, while welcoming the museum.

The site, initially surrounded by a park of seven hectares reduced to three today, illustrates the local and family history of the painter. The original fort house, linked to the Abbey of Saint-Antoine de Viennenois (Isère) from the 15th century, and rebuilt in the 17th century, bears witness to the architectural and social evolution of Boussy-Saint-Antoine. The museum showcases works composed by Dunoyer de Segonzac in his home, strengthening the link between the artist and his territory.
