The Drachenbronn-Birlenbach Elementary School is an iconic building from the 3rd quarter of the 20th century, located at 8 rue Louis-Philippe-Kamm in the department of Bas-Rhin (Great East). This historic monument is distinguished by its murals, Terre d'Alsace and La Forêt enchantée, made in 1955 by the Alsatian painter Louis-Philippe Kamm, former director of the École des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg (1945-1953). These works, integrated into the walls of the school, led to the inscription of the building under the title of Historical Monuments by decree of 5 September 1996, protecting both frescoes and their architectural support.

Louis-Philippe Kamm's choice to decorate this school reflects the importance attached to local art in the reconstruction and modernization of public infrastructure in Alsace after the Second World War. The paintings, symbolizing attachment to the Alsatian land and imagination, are part of a desire to transmit a strong cultural identity to future generations, through a place dedicated to education.
