The primary school of Serres, built at the end of the 19th century, is distinguished by the presence of a meridian, a particular sundial indicating the middle noon. This monument is located in the commune of Serres, in the department of Hautes-Alpes, in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d的Azur. The meridian, integrated with the southern façade of the school, is the only known example of this type of dial in the Hautes-Alpes, making it a remarkable scientific and historical heritage.

The meridian was made in 1882 by a local craftsman named Chavin, whose name is engraved under the dial with the mention "Chavin 1882". This sundial is characterized by the presence of an analemma, a curve indicating the dates of the first days of each month, as well as a line of equinox. These technical elements make it possible to determine precisely the local solar time, reflecting the astronomical knowledge of the time.

In 1996, the Meridian was listed as historical monuments by order of 3 October, thereby recognizing its heritage value. This sundial, owned by the municipality of Serres, bears witness to the importance given to the measurement of time in rural communities of the 19th century, as well as the local craftsmanship.
