Origin and history

The Ecomusée du cognac is located on a family wine farm in Migron, Charente-Maritime, between Saintes and Cognac. The main house, dating back to 1850, has been home to an eco-museum dedicated to the life of a traditional wine farm since 1989. This private site, located two kilometres from the village, is part of the cognac vineyard and actively participates in the local wine tourism, integrating the circuit of the "Steps of Cognac".

The ecomuseum extends over 800 m2 and presents, through five rooms of the Logis des Bessons, the historical winemaking know-how, including the production of cognac and pineau from the Charentes. Genuine reconstitutions exhibit a cellar with an old alembic, a bed of raw-boiler, presses (including one for foot casting), a cooperage workshop, and winemaker tools. A rare collection of 20th-century advertising boxes, including 1950s pieces and a label of 1889, as well as 10 perfume organs, enrich the exhibitions.

The museum completes its offer with presentations on coffee and chocolate, while perpetuating the memory of 19th century winemaking traditions. Its originality lies in its family roots and its participation in the valorisation of the Charente wine heritage, between historical authenticity and tourist dynamism.
