Ensign and façade on street of the building: inscription by order of 23 May 1984
Origin and history
The building located at 18 rue des Canettes, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, dates from the 1st quarter of the 18th century. This building, typical of the Parisian civil architecture of the time, is distinguished by its facade and its sign, two elements protected by a decree of inscription under the title of Historical Monuments since 23 May 1984. No additional information is available on its history, occupants or original use in the sources consulted.
The rue des Canettes, located in the historic district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, was at this time a lively place of life, marked by a social mix between artisans, bourgeois and religious. The buildings of this period often reflect the evolution of construction techniques and aesthetic tastes during the reign of Louis XIV and the Regency, with stone facades and sober yet elegant decorations. This type of building could house shops on the ground floor and housing on the floors, playing a central role in the daily life of the neighbourhood.
Available data indicate that the location of the building is approximate, with an accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10). GPS coordinates suggest a close address (17 rue des Canettes), but the official address recorded in the Mérimée base remains 18 rue des Canettes. No mention shall be made of its accessibility to the public, any visit, or current use as a place of accommodation or reception.
