Facade and roof on street: inscription by order of 30 December 1977
Origin and history
The building at 21bis-23 rue Victor-Massé, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, dates from the first half of the 19th century. This building, representative of the Parisian architecture of that time, was partially protected by an inscription under the title of Historical Monuments. The façade and the roof on the street were officially recognized by a decree of 30 December 1977, highlighting their heritage value.
The location of this building in a central district of Paris reflects the increasing urbanization of the capital in the 19th century. At that time, the 9th arrondissement, then in the midst of a transformation, welcomed a rising bourgeoisie and growing cultural and commercial activities. The buildings of this period, often with neat facades, illustrated the social prestige and evolution of architectural norms under the Haussmannian influence, although this building slightly precedes the major works of Baron Haussmann.
