Origin and history

The building, an annex to the town hall of Clermont-Ferrand, dates from the 18th century and is distinguished by its richly decorated facade. Architectural elements, such as rock-style bosses, staples and ironwork, reflect the artistic influence of the reign of Louis XV. The front door, with its original wooden vantals, is an emblematic example of this style, decorated with carved patterns such as shells, winged cartridges and abundant horns. These details, as well as the attic with pilaster-framed windows, highlight the refinement of the era.

The main door retains a boss frame and a low arch lintel, topped by an oval cartridge crowned with rock and plant motifs. The central medallion, bearing the interlaced initials AB, is surrounded by symbolic sculptures such as palms and horns of abundance. These elements, combined with interior woodwork and earthenware, illustrate 18th century decorative art. The ensemble, classified as Historic Monument in 1990, bears witness to the civil architectural heritage of Clermont-Ferrand.

The building, owned by the municipality, is located Place Philippe-Marcombes, in the Puy-de-Dôme. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments specifically concerns facades, roofs and the entrance door with its vantals. Although its current usage is not specified, its central location and style make it a significant part of the urban landscape of Clermont-Ferrand, reflecting the artistic heritage of the Auvergne under the Old Regime.
