Origin and history

The former seigneurial farm of Nero, located in the department of Eure-et-Loir in the region Centre-Val de Loire, has its origin in the communes of the local priory, today transformed into church Saint-Léger. This site, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, consists of two bodies of buildings of unequal heights, connected by a turret of angle. The facades on street, stone and brick, contrast with the interior walls of the courtyard, where the ground floor is masonry and floors in apparent half-timbered.

The farm, still operating under the name The dovecote farm, is dedicated to organic farming and opens its doors to the public every Saturday for the sale of its products. It was listed as historic monuments in 1977, and a new decree in 2023 clarified its protection, distinguishing its elements (facades, roofs, floors, fence walls and dovecote) from those of the adjoining church. This monument thus illustrates the reuse of religious buildings in agricultural structures after the disappearance of the priories.
