Facades and roofs on street: classification by decree of 18 August 1944
Origin and history
The building at 9 rue des Consuls in Sarlat-la-Canéda is an architectural testimony of the 15th century, a period of prosperity for the city. It is distinguished by a square turret and a corbelled turret, characteristic of local medieval urbanism. These elements reflect the influence of late Gothic styles and the adaptation to the urban constraints of the era, where bourgeois or notable houses often incorporated defensive or decorative structures.
Ranked a Historic Monument by order of 18 August 1944, the building enjoys protection on its facades and roofs on street. This official recognition underscores its historic importance in the historic centre of Sarlat, a city renowned for its medieval and exceptionally preserved renaissance. The location, near the central square, suggests a role in the commercial or administrative life of the city.
The accuracy of its location is assessed as "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), with an address confirmed by the Merimée bases and approximate GPS coordinates. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visit, accommodation, etc.), its state of conservation and its visibility in the public space make it a landmark of the Sallada heritage. The data comes mainly from the Monumentum database and the Merimée archives, supplemented by photographic licenses (Credit: MOSSOT, Creative Commons).
