Origin and history

The building located in Vendôme, dating from the 16th century, is distinguished by its Renaissance gate, an architectural element of exception. This portal, which has been listed as a Historical Monument since 1948, presents a richly adorned frame: carved pilasters with capitals, bandeau decorated with arabesques, and carved heads on both sides. A semicircular pediment, surmounted by an abundance of garland or horn, completes the whole, while flowers crown the structure. The patterns include angels or lovers holding a badge, typical of reborn iconography.

The location of the building is specified at 8 Place de la République (41100 Vendôme), although GPS coordinates suggest an approximation at 14 Rue Saint-Jacques. The department, identified via the code Insee 41269, corresponds to the Loir-et-Cher, in the region Centre-Val de Loire. Only the part of the gate, located in the courtyard, enjoys official protection, without any mention of opening to the public or current use (visit, rental, etc.).

The available sources (Monumentum, Mérimée base) highlight the heritage importance of this portal, a remarkable example of Renaissance art in the Centre-Val de Loire region. No information is provided on the sponsors, architects, or historic occupants of the building. The accuracy of the location is considered passable (note 5/10), and a photo licensed under Creative Commons (credit: N.duske) documents the monument.
