Origin and history
The building of the 5 boulevard des Capucines, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, is part of the subdivision of the Yellow Fossés, following the disappearance of the enclosure of Louis XIV. This urban project, linked to the drilling of the boulevards, allowed the creation of a new neighbourhood in the heart of the capital. The building, built between 1834 and 1835 on the plans of architect Lesueur, forms with number 7 a coherent architectural ensemble, organized around a common courtyard to colonnade.
Partial reconstruction of the rear façades was necessary during the drilling of the rue du Quatre-Septembre, partially modifying the original structure. The building is distinguished by its protected elements, including facades and roofs on the street, the coach pass, as well as interior rooms maintaining their period decor on the first, second, fourth and fifth floors.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 10 March 2006, this building illustrates the architectural evolution of Paris under the July monarchy. Its property is now owned by a private company, while its location, although documented, remains approximate according to available sources, with a main address at 5 boulevard des Capucines and a GPS address close to 6 boulevard des Capucines (9th arrondissement).
