Origin and history

The building at 94 rue des Loges in Fontenay-le-Comte is an example of civil architecture in the late 15th or early 16th century. Its street façade, made of wood and brick, contrasts with the other stone walls, while its long-paned roof and arased stair tower reflect the constructive techniques of the era. The building was later extended, dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, today partly ruined.

Ranked a Historic Monument by decree of 16 October 1944, this building illustrates the urban heritage of the Vendée. Its protection specifically concerns the facade on street and roof, highlighting their heritage value. The approximate location (accuracy noted 5/10) and available sources, such as Monumentum, confirm its anchoring in local history.

The house, covered with a long-paned roof, includes a staircase tower surmounted by a massed appentis. Its present state, with a ruined back part, bears witness to the transformations and wear of time. The materials used, such as wood panel, brick and stone, are characteristic of residential constructions of the Renaissance in Pays de la Loire.
