Church (Cd. A 29): entry by order of 5 December 1973

Origin and history

The church of Saint-Pierre du Mesnil-Caussois is a Catholic religious building located in the village of Mesnil-Caussois, now integrated into the municipality of Noues de Siena, in the department of Calvados. Its construction ranges from the 14th to the 16th century, reflecting the architectural and artistic evolutions of this period in Normandy. The building is representative of the rural churches of the region, marked by late Gothic influences and local adaptations.

The church was fully registered as a historical monument by order of 5 December 1973. This protection recognizes its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its role in the religious and community history of Lower Normandy. The building, owned by the commune, remains a witness to the constructive and spiritual practices of medieval and modern times.

Mesnil Caussois, like other Norman villages, was at that time a rural place of life organized around the church, center of religious and social activities. The parish churches served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for collective decisions, festivals and important events in the lives of the inhabitants. Their architecture, often modest, adapted to the local resources and needs of the community.
