Origin and history
Saint-Pierre de Saint-Pierre-du-Jonquet is a Catholic religious building located in the municipality of the same name in Normandy. Built entirely in the 18th century, more precisely in 1757, it embodies the religious architecture of this period. Its style is marked by a western tower surmounted by a bell-shaped dome, crowned by a lantern, as described by Arcisse de Caumont in his work on Calvados heritage.
The building was listed as historic monuments by order of 30 December 1986, thereby recognizing its heritage value. This protection concerns not only the church itself, but also its stone altarpiece, integrated into the masonry. The precise location of the church, at the 0 Way of the Church, is attested by geographical and administrative data, confirming its anchoring in the local landscape.
Arcisse de Caumont, Norman historian and archaeologist of the 19th century, documented this church in his monumental statistical work Calvados (1846). His observations, particularly on the structure of the tower, remain a reference to understand the architectural features of this monument. Today, the church belongs to the municipality and continues to play a role in local life, although information about its accessibility or current uses is limited in available sources.
