Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre is a Catholic church located in Asnières-en-Montagne, in the Côte-d'Or department, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built between the late 13th and early 14th centuries, it underwent major renovations and repairs between the 14th and 16th centuries. Its architecture, in the shape of a Latin cross, includes a flat choir, wide transepts and an octagonal bell tower covered with a slate, pierced with gemini windows and triangular openings. The building houses thirteen statues classified or inscribed since 1920, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, as well as remarkable stained glass windows in the choir bay.
The church was registered as historical monuments by order of 29 July 1976. It is distinguished by its religious furniture, including representations of local saints such as Saint John of Reome, Saint Mamès or Saint Roch. Its location, at the west entrance of the village on RD 5D, makes it a major visual and historical landmark for the commune. The materials used, such as roofing slate, reflect the regional construction techniques of the time.
The protection of the church as a historical monument underlines its heritage importance. The statues, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, illustrate the evolution of artistic styles and religious devotion in Burgundy during this period. Among them, a pietà, a Virgin with the Child, and representations of patron saints such as St Sebastian or St Barbe bear witness to the cultural and spiritual richness of the place. The building remains today the property of the municipality of Asnières-en-Montagne.
