Church: registration by decree of 6 March 1950
Origin and history
The church of Binges is a religious building built in the 15th century, located in the village of Binges, in Côte-d'Or. This monument, typical of Burgundian medieval religious architecture, was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 6 March 1950. It now belongs to the municipality and remains a central part of the local heritage.
The location of the church at 37 Rue du Val de Saône is documented in the Mérimée base, although the accuracy of this location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10). The building, whose protection concerns the whole building, illustrates the importance of parish churches in the social and spiritual organization of Burgundy villages at the end of the Middle Ages. These buildings served not only as places of worship, but also as gathering points for the community, reflecting the dominant agricultural and artisanal activities of the time.
The Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, and more particularly the Côte-d'Or, was at this time marked by a rural economy centered on viticulture, livestock and cereal crops. Churches, often built or renovated by the donations of local lords or parishioners, played a key role in daily life, hosting both religious offices and village assemblies. Their architecture, though modest for some, bears witness to the know-how of local artisans and cultural exchanges of the time.
