Church (cad. A 496): registration by decree of 15 April 1970
Origin and history
The church of Jancigny, located in the Côte-d'Or department (21) in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, dates from the second half of the thirteenth century. This religious monument, typical of the medieval architecture of the region, reflects the importance of parish churches in the social and spiritual organization of Burgundy villages at that time. Its inscription as a Historic Monument by order of 15 April 1970 bears witness to its heritage value and the desire to preserve this local heritage.
At the end of the 13th century, Burgundy was a region marked by a rural economy and growing trade, especially around Dijon, then booming. The churches, like that of Jancigny, served as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the village community. Their construction was often supported by local lords or residents, although the archives specific to this monument do not mention identified sponsors. These buildings played a central role in daily life, hosting religious ceremonies, occasional markets and community meetings.
The location of the church, at the 6 Route de Talmay à Jancigny, is documented in the Mérimée base, with a geographical precision deemed a priori satisfactory (note of 6/10). Owned by the municipality, it is now protected for its architecture and history, although available sources (Monumentum, internal data) do not specify its current state of openness to the public or its contemporary uses. No information is provided on any historical characters related to its foundation or evolution.
