The facades and roofs (Box C 184): inscription by decree of 10 May 2012
Origin and history
The church of the Annunciation of Casabianca, built in 1806, replaces an earlier building probably dated 1487. It embodies an architectural transition between medieval traditions and more recent 19th-century influences. The building, with an elongated plan, consists of a unique nave and a choir in retreat, covered with a vault with glasses. A bell tower, backed by the southern corner, completes the whole, while the lateral and rear facades are simply crepy.
The main facade is distinguished by its white painted decorations and stuccos on ochre and beige background, reflecting a marked aesthetic concern. Inside, the painted decorations, mostly contemporary, contrast with an older element, a primitive style decor, reflecting the historical strata of the site. Two construction campaigns, carried out in 1891 and 1983, preserved and enriched this architectural heritage.
Classified as a Historical Monument, the church saw its facades and roofs protected by a decree of 10 May 2012. Owned by the municipality of Casabianca, it is part of the religious and cultural landscape of Upper Corsica, where sacred buildings have played a central role in community life for centuries.
