Church, excluding the bell tower (Box E 168): inscription by order of 6 March 1989
Origin and history
The Church of the Assumption of Sariac-Magnoac is a listed historical monument, representative of late Gothic architecture. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it is characterized by a nave and collaterals vaulted with warheads, a square choir, as well as carved blazes. A bas-relief representing a crucifixion adorns the entrance gate, while 16th century murals cover the walls and vault of the choir, testifying to the religious art of the time.
The bell tower, added in the 19th century, contrasts with the original medieval structure. The building, excluding this bell tower, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 6 March 1989. Owned by the municipality of Sariac-Magnoac (Hautes-Pyrénées), this church illustrates the rural religious heritage of Occitanie, mixing Gothic elements and Renaissance painted decorations.
