Church: by decree of 20 July 1908
Origin and history
The church of the Décollation-de-Saint-Jean-Baptiste, located in Genicourt-sur-Meuse (formerly associated with Dieu-sur-Meuse), is a religious building whose first parts, the nave and the abside, were built in 1524 in a characteristic 15th century style. This stylistic shift suggests a desire to perpetuate older architectural traditions, despite a later construction. The bell tower, for its part, was completely rebuilt at the end of the sixteenth century, marking an evolution in the structure of the building.
Ranked a Historical Monument by order of 20 July 1908, the church suffered extensive damage, probably during World War I, requiring restoration after 1918. This work has preserved its integrity, while at the same time bearing witness to the historical upheavals in the region. Today, the building remains the property of the municipality of Genicourt-sur-Meuse, although its current status (open to the public, cultural or other use) is not specified in the available sources.
The location of the church, indicated as approximate (specify level 5/10), places the monument at 7 Rue Haute, 55320 Genicourt-sur-Meuse, in the department of the Meuse (Great East region). Its initial membership in Dieue-sur-Meuse and its attachment to Genicourt-sur-Meuse reflect local administrative developments. Available photographs, such as the one credited to Aimelaime~commonswiki under Creative Commons license, document its current appearance, although precise architectural details are not described in the sources.
