Origin and history
The church of Madeleine de Moisy, located in the Loir-et-Cher department in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a monument some of which dates back to the 12th century, with additions from the 14th and 18th centuries. It was initially linked to a priory dependent on Bonneval Abbey. The prioral home, now partially extinct, had a double archvolt portal in broken arch, probably dated the fourteenth century. The building consists of a 12th century nave, a narrower choir with a cul-de-four apse, and an 18th century sacristy decorated with murals.
The altarpiece of the church, classified as a Historical Monument in 1979, is a remarkable element for its simplicity and its representation of Christ as a Good Shepherd, a rare iconographic theme after the first centuries of Christianity. Restored between 2007 and 2008 by the Cultural Association of Moisy (ACM), it includes painted wooden panels illustrating liturgical objects. The whole church, including the sacristy and porch of the former priory, was protected by a ministerial decree of 21 January 2008.
The priory, reported from the twelfth century, preserved architectural traces as a 14th century portal. The sacristy, adjacent to the bedside, houses an 18th century painted decor, including calligraphed cartridges and an old wall composition in the form of a calvary. These elements bear witness to the artistic and religious evolution of the site throughout the centuries. The church remains a place of visit, with regularly organized guided openings.
