Origin and history
The Church of the Nativity-Our Lady of Seigneulles is a religious building built mainly in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. Located in the commune of Seigneulles, in the department of Meuse (55), it has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1991. Its architecture reflects the construction styles and techniques of these two epochs, with characteristic elements of the Renaissance and classical periods.
The church is listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 16 July 1991, under the cadastral reference ZB 16. It belongs to the commune of Seigneulles, as the Merimée base specifies. Although the details of its specific history are limited, its inscription bears witness to its heritage and architectural importance in the Greater East region.
The location of the building, at 13 Rue de l'Eglise, is approximate, with an accuracy considered fair (level 5/10). This church, like many religious monuments of that time, played a central role in community life, serving as a place of worship, assembly and identity marker for the inhabitants of and around Seigneulles. At that time, churches were often at the heart of the social, religious and even economic activities of villages, reflecting the organization and values of rural societies in Lorraine.
