Origin and history

The Church of the Holy Trinity of St.Trinit is a 12th century Romanesque building located on the Albion plateau in the department of Vaucluse. Originally, the site housed a Benedictine priory, replaced by the present church, which depended first on the abbey of Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, then on the bishops of Carpentras in the 13th century. Its architecture, marked by ancient influences, includes triglyphs, canned columns and capitals decorated with acanthe leaves.

During the Wars of Religion in 1580, the inhabitants strengthened the church, causing the destruction of its vault and part of the Romanesque nave. Ranked a historic monument in 1915, it is distinguished by its polygonal bedside, columned windows and its stone bell tower. The facades, supported by bellow foothills, reflect a robust construction typical of Provencal Romanesque art.

Today, the church is open to the public in summer, with volunteers ensuring its access. The rest of the year, the keys are available at the local bistro, in front of the town hall. Its ranking and maintenance testify to its heritage importance in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
