Church in ruins of Pont Christ and adjoining calvary (Box A 462): classification by decree of 18 February 1916
Origin and history
The church of Pont Christ is a religious monument located in the commune of La Roche-Maurice, Brittany. Dating from the 16th century, it is a typical example of the ecclesiastical constructions of this period, marked by architectural influences both Gothic and Renaissance. No external source specifies its stylistic peculiarities or its detailed history.
In the 16th century, Brittany experienced a period of transition between the Middle Ages and the Modern Ages. Parish churches, like Pont Christ's, then play a central role in community life: they house religious offices, gatherings and sometimes local decisions. Their construction often reflects the prosperity of parishes or the patronage of local lords, although the archives available for this monument do not mention specific sponsors.
