Origin and history

The church of Ramensan, located in Biran in Ghent Gascogne, illustrates the rural religious architecture typical of this region. Its bell tower-wall, positioned to the west, extends a thickened wall to the rest of the building, revealing distinct construction phases. The large work seems to date from various periods, between the 12th century for the oldest parts and the 19th century for subsequent additions such as l'emban in front of the door, a historic place of community gathering.

The sacristy, dated precisely from 1756, opens on the choir and bears witness to an intermediate phase of modifications. The church is also marked by a folk tradition linked to devotion to St.Andrew: the weeping children were once led there on pilgrimage, a practice that emphasizes its social and spiritual role within the local population. This monument, registered in the inventory of Historical Monuments since 1978, now belongs to the municipality of Biran.

The 19th century hall, a covered area in front of the entrance, served as a meeting place for the community, reflecting the importance of the church as a centre of collective life. The accuracy of its location remains poor (level 5/10), and its approximate address, coming from GPS coordinates, places it near Larradet. Municipal ownership, its current status (open/closed, use) is not specified in available sources.
