Church: Order of 8 October 1919

Origin and history

The church of Saillans, located in the municipality of the same name in Drôme (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is a monument whose origins date back to the 12th century, with major transformations in the 16th and 19th centuries. This place of worship, still in place today, reflects the architectural and religious evolutions of the region through these pivotal periods. Its classification as Historic Monument by decree of October 8, 1919 highlights its exceptional heritage value, as well as its central role in local history.

The building of the church spans centuries, with architectural traces of the Middle Ages (XII century), additions or modifications of the Renaissance (XVI century), and modern restorations or amenities (XIX century). These temporal strata make the building a material witness to construction techniques and successive artistic styles. Owned by the municipality of Saillans, the church remains a focal point of community life, although the available sources do not specify its current use (regular culture, sightseeing, or other functions).

The 1919 classification protects the entire building, guaranteeing the preservation of its oldest elements as later additions. The church's location at 71 Grande Rue in the historic centre of Saillans reinforces its anchoring in the urban fabric and accessibility. The geographical data, although considered of poor precision (level 5/10), nevertheless allow to situate the monument in its immediate environment, between mountains and valley of the Drôme.
